Workshop „Doktorhut - alles gut?!“

The annual career workshop entitled “Doktorhut – alles gut?!" gives PhD students of the University of Bonn the opportunity to meet representatives of different areas of professional life.

Doctor of Philosophy

The doctoral degree awarded by the Faculty of Arts is the Doctor of Philosophy („Doktor der Philosophie”, Dr. phil.).

Structured Doctoral Training Programme

Participation in the structured doctoral training programme of the Faculty of Arts provides not only research supervision but also a comprehensive curriculum in different areas of studies. The programme aims to optimally prepare doctoral students for careers both within and outside academia.

Studying for a Doctor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts

The doctoral studies begin with admission to the qualification phase and the agreement of supervision (Betreuungsvereinbarung). During the qualification phase, which is two years in duration at first but can be extended, doctoral students may attend research colloquia in their departments as well as other, optional courses. In the structured doctoral training programme, a specific selection of courses is offered.

The examination phase begins with submission of the written thesis in the PhD office. Successful completion of the examination phase results in the award of the Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.) degree.
