Located at the heart of the Bonn City Centre and over the Koblenz gate, the Egyptian museum of the University of Bonn displays some of the most beautiful and interesting items which come from Egypt. With around 700 exhibited objects, the Egyptian museum is considered the most distinguished Egyptian collection in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The permanent exhibition possesses an extensive number of pictures about the ancient Egyptian cultural history from the 4th millennium BC to the 3rd century. The objects provid a comprehensive overview of the ancient civilisation along the Nile River: except the perception of death and afterlife, the exhibition also focuses on temples, the role of Pharaoh as well as the relation between humans and gods. Clothes, jewelry and tools make visitors accessible to the everyday life in ancient times. Meanwhile, documents written on papyrus and other items illustarte the rich written culture of the country. Apart from the permanent exhibition, the Egyptian museum organises regularly special presentations and lectures, whose topics range from classical cultural history to comtemporary photography.

Nearly a total surface of 300 square metres is used for exhibition of the items from the Bonn collection of the Americas. The BASA fulfills its mission as a collection for study and reseach which allows all students and researchers to unproblematically access the objects. On the ground floor temporary exhibitions are designed for visitors and the magazines provide an abstract of the most important and interesting items at BASA. In accordance with the respective research and teaching assignments, the exhibition places its focus on the archaeological discovery and ethnological items form the regions of Central and South America. Among approximately 8500 objects there are also various treasures from Africa, Australia/Oceania and Asia.

The academic art museum, also known as the classical collection of the University of Bonn, is one of the oldest museums in Bonn. Since 1811 it has carried out the mission to collect Graeco-Roman artefacts, either replicas or the original, from the Mediterranean Region. The museum owns one of the largest plaster cast collections in Germany with around 2700 plaster casts from statues, reliefs and craftworks. In the collection of original artefacts there are numerous antique items which were made of clay, stone, metal, glass and other organic materials. They provide a broad insight into the world in ancient times. Apart from regular exhibitions, the museum also organises lectures, guide tours, drawing courses, special exhibitions and research projects. Because the historical buildings in Hofgarten will be renovated, the academic art museum has moved to the temorary addresse (Römerstraße 164). At this new place the original artefacts will be exhibited on their full extent. However, the plaster casts will only be presented with a representative selection of items.

The display collection of plaster replicas, which are built after sculptures from the late antiquity to the 19th century, assists teaching and research with valuable study material. The famous historical stock is constantly being extended and reconstructed, most recently by the new department of Italian studies.
The Paul-Clemen-Museum also possesses a growing collection of comtemporary artefacts and a selction of remades from the modern age. In addition, the museum installs resonance space for temporary exhibitions with contemporary and historical topics, for which the exhibition group of the institute of art history or curatorial initiatives from students and lecturers are responsible. It is worthwile mentioning the cooperation between the "Musée Caché" in Paris, whose director, the Argentinean artist Ariel Kupfer has opened a dependance in the Paul-Clemen-Museum. Since 2016 the "Musée Caché" has become an interactive challenge for our visitors.
