Faculty of Arts
Diversity is our strength: The Faculty of Arts represents the humanities center of the university.
With more than 10.000 students, the Faculty of Arts is the largest among the seven faculties at the University of Bonn. It comprises eleven institutes and eleven interdisciplinary research centers in the humanities and social sciences. Additionally, the Faculty of Arts is affiliated with three joint research centers and several museums that constitute our research networks. A number of museums that are affiliated with the faculty constitute our research networks as well.
Today, the Faculty presents itself as a complex network of philosophical, historical, philological, and social science disciplines. Thanks to the research and teaching activities of recognized scholars, the Faculty of Arts holds an outstanding international position in the academic world.
The wide range of existing subjects is also reflected in a large number of highly differentiated research projects. Furthermore, there are a large number of research focuses in the eleven institutes, such as area studies, antiquity and its heritage, the European Middle Ages in transcultural comparison, media discourse and media performance in the past and present, Germany and Europe in a global context. Our interdisciplinary research centres coordinate many leading research projects at the Faculty of Arts.
