The Faculty of Arts of the University of Bonn currently offers 16 international degree programs in different subjects. The various combination models available for bachelor’s degree programs give students extensive options for their own subject specialisms, while the nuanced selection of master’s degree programs offers an excellent opportunity for in-depth academic study and specialization.

Application & Admission

The University’s application guide will direct you toward the correct application procedures, providing you with everything you need to know to submit your application and what to do after admission.

Please note:

  • Applicants from abroad should note that the required documents must be available as certified translations (in German or English) in addition to the original documents in PDF format.
  • As the visa application process can be lengthy, we strongly advise international students to apply as early as possible and to make an appointment at the embassy before admission.

Support Program for Refugees

The University of Bonn is offering a preparatory program for refugees, the NRWege Preparation for University. It offers a free German course as structured preparation for the German Language Proficiency Test for Admission to Higher Education (DSH) as well as advice and support for future study at the University of Bonn.

  • Accommodation: As it is currently difficult to organize accommodation for students, students are asked to accept any assistance from the university and the program managers. Please note that due to the current situation on the housing market, students may have to accept a shared apartment if no single apartments are available.
  • Before starting your studies: We kindly ask students to carefully read the examination regulations for their respective degree program before the start of their studies in order to avoid delays in their studies that may arise if prerequisites for certain modules are not met.

Doctoral Studies

We welcome international doctoral students to pursue their PhD in our Faculty's vibrant research community. You need to fulfill the formal requirements of admission and find a supervisor. Please read the doctoral degree regulations carefully. 

The Faculty of Arts offers numerous graduate programs which you may apply for. International doctoral students also benefit from the Pro-Motion program at the International Office which provides counseling, workshops, networking and much more. The Bonn Graduate Center is the central service department for all doctoral students at the University of Bonn. International doctoral students may participate in the University's German language courses for free.

Resources for Teaching Staff

The Bonn Center for University Teaching offers teaching staff at the University of Bonn - including contract lecturers - a wide range of events and consulting services for structuring teaching and learning scenarios.
